Business doesn’t stop!

by Cherry - 12:05 on 28 April 2017

It’s been a while since I last wrote a blog. A whole busy winter in fact, during which we moved to a new house in a new village in France and had two trips back to the UK to visit friends and family.

However, the wedding business doesn’t stop – we have been busier than ever taking bookings for 2017 and 2018.

I am always amazed that having conducted ceremonies at so many lovely venues in our corner of France that our couples still manage to find new ones – to us that is.

This year we will be conducting ceremonies in Chateau gardens, Chapels, wine domains, luxury holiday rentals, on the beach and in parent’s private gardens.  We never get bored!

Our couples are coming here from all over the World, Australia, The Philippines, America, Norway Malaysia, Dubai, Qatar, Germany and France as well as England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

In fact w are so busy that we have recruited another celebrant to join us at Weddings Words andWishes, ready for the 2018 season!

He is Ian Watson and he is already learning the ropes, shadowing us at weddings this year.  His wife Mandy will also be in support in the same way as I support Ray on the day. So a second team is in place to cope with those popular dates.

You may ask why? What makes a couple choose to have a symbolic ceremony in France?

There are many reasons, the simplest is that they already have a connection in some way, either one of them is French or they have parents who live here, but these are in the minority.

Most couples are turning away from the prescribed formula offered by the church or by a registrar. A symbolic wedding in France allows them to personalise their ceremony – there are no restraints and combining that with one of the most romantic places in the World…. The South of France – it makes perfect sense.

They can also have up to a week in a beautiful private chateau with their family and close friends for the same price as a weekend in a venue at home. Good weather, food and wine almost guaranteed and with cheap flights to many regional airports it’s easy to get here too.

We work with several great Wedding Planners, who can organise all the details for you. But we also have couples who prefer to organise the wedding themselves and for them we have a network of English speaking wedding professionals to recommend.  Photographers, florists, musicians, caterers, hairdressers and make-up artists.

So, as the 2017 season begins – don’t leave it too late to book for 2018!!

Celebrants: Ray and Cherry Thatcher and Ian Watson.
